What is a Film Reel and why should I care?
A Film Reel is classified as a trinket and is considered rare in-game. Its description simply says it “may be worth a few coins,” which might make it sound trivial. In practice, it’s not something you use directly in combat, crafting, or your base—it’s mainly a loot item that carries value for selling or trading.
From experience, the Film Reel’s value lies in its rarity and stackability. Each reel weighs 0.2 units, and you can stack up to 3 in a single inventory slot. For players who manage inventory space carefully, that’s a small weight investment for a decent coin return.
The current sell price is around 2,000 coins per reel. That might not make you rich immediately, but when you gather a few from a raid, the total can fund ammo, consumables, or upgrades.

Where can I find Film Reels?
Film Reels appear in Residential and Old World loot containers. From my experience running raids, here’s what tends to yield the best results:
  • Residential Areas: Look for drawers, cabinets, and storage boxes. Places like Pale Apartments and Ruby Residence in the Dam Battlegrounds often spawn them.
  • Old World Areas: These are trickier to access but sometimes offer Film Reels in the ruins of former human settlements, like Plaza Roza or Grandioso Apartments in the Buried City.

The key is to check every container in these areas, because spawn rates are random. Some players focus solely on high-value loot containers, but I’ve found that systematically looting everything in a Residential or Old World site usually nets at least one or two reels per run.

How do players actually use Film Reels?
Here’s where it gets practical. Film Reels are not a consumable or crafting component, so their main uses are:
  • Selling for coins: Most players simply sell Film Reels at trading hubs or vendors. Because they’re rare and light, they’re a good item to hoard for cash if you need coins quickly.
  • Trading: Some players use them in trades with other raiders. While not essential, they can sweeten a deal for other rare items, especially when combined with things like arc raiders blueprints trade. In my experience, offering a stack of Film Reels alongside a blueprint can make a trade much more attractive.
  • Display or collection: In rare cases, players keep them for display in their Raider Den. It doesn’t provide functional benefits, but some enjoy the collection aspect.

In short, while Film Reels don’t directly affect gameplay, their value comes from economy and trade rather than combat utility.

Should I prioritize Film Reels during raids?
This is a question I get a lot from new raiders. The answer depends on your objectives:
  • If your goal is upgrading gear and weapons, don’t over-prioritize Film Reels. They’re nice to pick up when convenient, but focus on blueprints, crafting materials, and rare mods first.
  • If your goal is building coin reserves or trading for other rare items, then yes, collecting Film Reels makes sense. Their rarity and stackability make them a solid secondary loot target.

I usually grab them on the way out of a loot run, after primary objectives are secured. Since each weighs only 0.2, they rarely impact my inventory limits, even if I pick up a couple.

Common player behavior around Film Reels
From watching other players and running raids myself, a few patterns are worth noting:
  • Stacking for maximum profit: Players often hoard three Film Reels per inventory slot to maximize value without filling inventory.
  • Ignoring them in high-pressure raids: In time-limited or combat-heavy zones, some players skip reels entirely to focus on mission-critical loot.
  • Trading strategically: Experienced raiders sometimes use Film Reels in bundles to negotiate better trades for high-demand items. This is where knowing who values them can make a difference.

One mistake I see frequently is overestimating their value in isolation. A single reel isn’t game-changing, but several reels combined with other loot or for selling/trading can be quite useful.

Tips for maximizing Film Reel collection
  • Plan your route: In Residential or Old World areas, mark containers you haven’t looted yet. Efficiency matters because you often only get one or two reels per location.
  • Check loot respawn cycles: Film Reels are rare, but they respawn. If you revisit areas periodically, you can collect more without wasting time in low-yield zones.
  • Combine with blueprint runs: If you’re already gathering arc raiders blueprints trade, add a few Residential containers to your route. You’ll increase both currency and trade potential in a single run.
  • Don’t neglect light-weight stacking: With only 0.2 weight per reel, they’re almost always worth picking up unless you’re fully loaded on more critical items.

Film Reels in Arc Raiders are a small but valuable part of the loot ecosystem. They won’t make or break a raid, but understanding where they spawn, how to use them in trade or sale, and the ways players typically approach them can give you an edge in managing resources and inventory efficiently.
For any player looking to maximize coin income or make trades, keeping an eye out for Film Reels—especially alongside other rare items—can be a low-effort, steady way to improve your resources over time.
