The have made a head coaching change with just four games left until the playoffs. That would be surprising regardle s of the standings. But at the time of the change from Patrick Roy to Peter DeBoer, the Islanders are in a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. They have a 42-31-5 record, which is good for 89 points. That's seventh in the East. There are four teams at 88 points and one team at 87 points, so the Islanders aren't safe. This is quite the move to make. It comes with plenty of immediate risk, but it wasn't made for immediate reasons. The New York Islanders have FIRED Patrick Roy and HIRED Peter DeBoer with 4 games Ryan Borucki Jersey remaining, in the midst of a playoff race THIS LEAGUE B/R Open Ice (@BR_OpenIce) Why did Islanders fire Patrick Roy for Peter DeBoer? The Islanders want a better structure, and they want things lined up best for the future. This is what wrote on X: "Heard NY felt they were leaving Ilya Sorokin exposed and needed better defensive structure. Theres more term than Torts deal so Isles are getting ahead of the cycle before someone else hired DeBoer this summer." The timing is odd, to be sure, but it's a move the Islanders felt they had to make, and so they made it. It'll create a fascinating home stretch of the season, to be sure, and then potentially set up continuity for the future. MORE: Chase Anderson Jersey |
