Forza Horizon 6 was officially unveiled earlier this year, with a release date set for May 19, 2026. Developed by Playground Games, the latest installment promises to expand the series’ open-world racing experience with exciting new features and a fresh setting.
Japan takes center stage as the main location, offering iconic landmarks and varied roads. Players will race through Tokyo, exploring Shibuya Crossing, Ginza Avenue, and the Tokyo Tower. The game also features mountain passes inspired by Mt. Haruna and Bandai Azuma, as well as highways modeled after the C1 loop. Playground Games emphasizes that the game is designed for fans of sharp turns and dynamic driving, rather than being a “Japanese postcard.” Night races with neon lights will highlight the urban landscapes.
Seasons make a return, with more dramatic differences than in previous games. Landscapes, weather, vegetation, and soundscapes will shift dynamically, while the Alpine regions of Japan will feature snow year-round. This seasonal diversity enhances both racing conditions and visual variety.
New game modes and innovations are also on the way. Horizon Rush introduces obstacle courses, while progression through identification bracelets allows players to earn the Horizon Legend status. The open world will be fully shared, offering live player encounters, Time Attack Circuits, Car Meets, and Drag Meets without downloads or restrictions.
Customization options are expanded, including garage personalization, The Estate construction, aftermarket cars, and collaborative content creation through EventLab. Additional features include a car proximity radar and updated vehicle audio. Forza Horizon 6 will support full crossplay and cross-saves across Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS5, and Steam, as well as Xbox Play Anywhere functionality.
